Wyoming Megan's Law

Being named after Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was passed into federal law in 1995. Megans Law requires that every state put a method in place for alerting the general public when a sexual offender is moves into their area.
Megan was only seven years old when a repeat sexual predator that lived accross the street from her family, abducted, rapped, and murdered her. It was concluded that had her family or other local residents had known that a convicted sexual offender was living amongst them, this crime would've been thwarted. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress enacted the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", aka Megan's Law, without any objections.
Ever since the law has been enacted, Wyoming has gone out of its way to protect its public by providing the most recent information regarding previous sexual offenders and their current residency. The law has proven that though sexual assaults are still a occuring in this country, offenses committed by past offenders are on a decline.
The information obtainable by the enactment of Megan's Law has continued to be a major asset in keeping one's family guarded from the dangers of sexual offenses.
