Wyoming Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was enacted into federal law in 1995. Megan's Law demands that each state develop a procedure for notifying local residents when a sexual offender is moves into their community.
Megan was only seven years old when a previous sexual offender that was living accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and murdered her. It was determined that had her family or other local residents had been aware that a convicted sexual offender was residing in their neighborhood, this assult would've been prevented. On that train of thought, the U.S. Congress legislated the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", also known as Megan's Law, without any protests.
Since the law has been enacted, Wyoming has strived to protect its residents the most recent information regarding past sex offenders and their whereabouts. The legislation has shown that though sexual assaults are still a problem in the U.S., offenses committed by previous offenders are on a regression.
The information obtainable through the institution of Megan's Law has shown to be a critical advantage in keeping one's family shielded from the dangers of sexual offenses.
